LOS ANGELES, CA — Following Democratic gubernatorial candidate Katie Porter’s remarks during a televised interview where she said, “I don’t want this all on camera,” the Penner campaign issued the following statement:
“When candidates running for California’s highest office shy away from questions or tell reporters to stop filming, it’s more than a bad look — it’s a failure of leadership. Public service requires transparency, honesty, and the courage to face tough questions head-on,” said Ethan Penner, independent candidate for Governor.
“Career politicians have gotten far too comfortable in backroom deals and tightly scripted appearances. Voters crave the probing of honest investigative journalists who will probe candidates to understand who they are and what they stand for rather the insider interviews where the questions are shared in advanced and the interview is totally scripted. We deserve leaders who don’t hide from accountability and who actually have ideas and a vision for how they will improve the lives of all Californians.”
Penner added that California is desperate for candidates who “believe that democracy demands daylight.” That’s why an independent and qualified governor is needed — someone who isn’t beholden to party politics, who has relevant experience and ideas to move California forward, who can lead with integrity, prioritize people over partisanship, and restore trust in government through transparency and accountability.
